The Unani System of Medicine
The Unani System of Medicine has a long and impressive record in India. It was introduced in India by the Arabs and Persians sometime around the eleventh century. Today, India is one of the leading countries in so far as the practice of Unani medicine is concerned. It has the largest number of Unani educational, research and health care institutions.
As the name indicates, the Unani system originated in Greece. The foundation of the Unani system was laid by Hippocrates and further researched and developed by Ibn Sina (Avicenna). The system owes its present form to the scholars who rendered Greek literature into Arabic and enriched the medicine of their day with Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology, Therapeutics, and Surgery.

Canon of Medicine & Modern Recognition
The foundational knowledge of Unani medicine was compiled by Hakim Ibn Sina in his medical masterpiece The Canon of Medicine (Al-Qanun fi al-Tibb). In India, qualified Unani practitioners are officially registered and recognized by the Government of India and the Ministry of AYUSH. Unani medicine works in harmony with the body's self-preservation force (Tabiyat) to restore complete health.
